Some nights are peaceful.
Some nights feel like survival.
Sleep struggles are not always about defiance. Sometimes they are about a nervous system that simply cannot settle.
Why sleep can be so difficult
Many autistic children struggle with sleep in ways that are deeper than just resisting bedtime. Their bodies and brains can process the evening hours differently, which means sleep may not come as easily or as predictably as it does for other children.
When overstimulation takes over
Bedtime can become the moment when the entire day catches up with a child. The noise, transitions, demands, disappointments, sensory input, and emotional effort they have been carrying may all begin to spill over at once.
A gentle reminder: tomorrow is a new night. Tonight does not have to define your child,
your parenting, or your home.
